Bridal Parade set to return

Bridal Parade set to return

Back by popular demand, the Circular Head Bridal Parade is set to return to the region after a 17-year hiatus, ironically, 17 years after the final event was held.

Commencing in 1989, the first ever event was held at Tall Timbers on the establishments opening night.

“I was still waiting for the carpets to be laid,” organiser Leonie Edwards said.

“At around 5.30 we had crowds already streaming to get in. It was incredible. I’d panicked all week thinking the venue wasn’t going to be ready.”

The original event saw an estimated 400 guests flock to the brand-new Tall Timbers Function Room, to witness up to 50 bridal gowns from years gone by. According to the Circular Head Chronicle dated July 19, 1989, the highlight of the evening was the 121-year old wedding gown of Mrs Annie Elizabeth Borradale (nee Ferguson). It is believed the gown was worn by Mrs Borradale at her wedding at the Stanley Presbetyrian Church in 1868. The gown was modelled by Linda Kay and lent to organisers by Mrs Borradale’s great great granddaughter, Mandy Gale.
