Marrawah tragedy, 10 years on

Thursday, July 13, will mark the 10th anniversary of the murder of 44-year-old Circular Head local, Simon John Crisp.

It was a little after midnight in July 2013 when Mr Crisp was helping his partner at the time, Allison Nicholls, close up the Marrawah Tavern after a busy night of trade. The pair, along with Ms Nicholls’ 10-year-old daughter, who was asleep in the pub at the time, were set to fly to Western Australia that very morning.

CCTV footage from inside the venue shows Mr Crisp exiting through the rear of the pub carrying garbage bags just before shots rang out on that still winters evening, fatally wounding him, and sending shockwaves through the tight-knit community.
