A solid opening term for the Saputo Circular Head Saints on Saturday afternoon wasn’t quite enough for the home side to hold on for their maiden victory against the Ulverstone Robins in their first season back in the NWFL.
The team was given a little extra fire in the belly as club legend Kevin Radford was on hand to offer his support to the team that he dedicated most of his life to. Emotions were running high as the Saints got off to a strong start in the first quarter, controlling majority of the contest as the rain began to fall at the Smithton Rec. Josh Gale was at his undeniable best, slotting through the only major for the term as the Saints failed to capitalise in front of goal. Their stingy defence, lead by Dyllan Brown and Matt Elliott disallowed any sniff for the Robins as the home side headed into quarter time with a 13 point lead, 1.7.13 to Ulverstone’s 0.0.0.
