Circular Head’s vandalism epidemic continues to rage on with significant damage being done to Anzac Park over the weekend.

A plaque detailing all those who have served in Circular Head from the Boer War right through to the Vietnam War was smashed and will need to be replaced, and damage to the trail of Remembrance has resulted in the death of two trees.

“I’m p***** off about it to put it mildly,” Circular Head RSL Subbranch President Jason Chatwin said.

“It pretty much flies in the face of all those who have served in Circular Head and their families.”

The trail of remembrance was completely funded by community donations and each tree on the walk commemorates a Circular Head based soldier who lost their life serving in World War One.

To fix it, money will need to be sourced from Federal grants and donations.

“That money comes out of the taxpayers pocket or from direct donations from the community,” Jason said.

“These [people] have directly disrespected the veterans of Circular Head and all those that have served our country, living or dead.”

Jason says that the community is outraged, especially those affiliated with the RSL.

“Clearly no one in their family has served or they’d have a little bit more respect. If they were bought up properly they wouldn’t ever think of doing something like this,” he said.

“It’s disheartening that there are people out there in the community like that, but obviously there is.”

Lost for words, Jason hopes that the vandals are ashamed of themselves and will be keeping an extra close eye on the park for future damage.

“I can’t believe that someone would go out there and wilfully do this and think it’s funny,” Jason said.

“I’m disgusted and upset. I’m struggling to find the words to be honest.”
