Little Aths to hit the track

Little Aths to hit the track

A call out to keep Circular Head Little Athletics alive has resulted in a full committee ready to put their hands up for a successful season come October.

The new committee consists of Jessica Tomlinson, President, Jason Moles, Vice President, Peter McKenzie, Secretary/Treasurer and general committee members Melinda Armstrong, Lauren Grey and Kristen Johnson.

“We want to see the kids out there having fun, learning new skills and making new friends,” Jessica said.

The little athletics season commences around the start of October and runs until March, with meets held every Thursday at 5:30pm and requires parent involvement to assist with the program.

“We rely on parents to help out on the day with measuring and recording,” Jessica said.

Last season the club hosted 31 registered athletes from the five to 15 year age groups also catering for the three and four year olds in their tiny tot program.

Opportunities are available for athletes to compete against other Little Athletics Clubs, with meets and State Championships.

“Last season we had two athletes [Ashlynn Moles and Lucas Furphy] travel to Launceston for State Individual Championships,” Jessica said.

“Both placed well in their events. Ashlynn won a bronze medal in the 1100m race walk.”

The new committee are looking forward to a successful season and welcoming new faces to the club.
