The Tall Timbers Smithton Saints Under 14 Boys are off to a good start, recording two wins on Sunday as part of the North West Basketball Association’s first double header.

Playing Somerset in Somerset at 12:15pm the boys then hit the road towards Smithton to take on the then undefeated Penguin Blues.

The Saints made easy work of the Heat, winning 65 to 43, and took it all the way down to the wire against the Blues, winning 56 to 53. Smithton are now third on the ladder.

The Under 14 Girls are still developing and coming together as a team but are still showing plenty of good signs. During the away game the Saints went down 67 to 13, but were much more impressive against the undefeated Blues, going down 21 to 73.

The Under 12 Boys played the Heat in Somerset first up and were victorious 52 to 39, but the second game of the day proved to be quite the task, going down to the Blues 64 to 41. The U12 Boys sit seventh on the ladder.

Somerset were far too strong for the Under 12 Girls, winning 74 to 4, but with a home crowd behind them the girls improved drastically, going down by a respectable 22 points.

Starting out in Smithton at 9am the Under 16 Boys struggled against the Blues, going down 24 to 90. In Somerset the Saints improved, losing 30 to 88.

In the Under 18 Boys the Saints had tough competition against Penguin in Smithton, but battled hard to go down 68 to 90. 

Travelling to Somerset however the Heat were unstoppable, putting up an incredible 110 points to the Saints’ 63.

Playing in a much smaller division the Under 18 Girls didn’t have to race home as part of the double header and instead played their sole game of the day against Somerset at 3.30pm on Sunday. The Girls went down 58 to 26.
