The barbecue shelter at Julius River has been restored after a significant act of vandalism that was labelled a disgraceful act by Mayor Daryl Quilliam.

“Council was disgusted to hear of the deliberate destruction of reserve infrastructure.” 

Julius River Reserve forms part of the Tarkine Drive experience and was refurbished in 2018. 

The pedestrian timber bridges on the Rainforest Walk at the picnic area were replaced with steel span bridges to improve visitor access at the popular track. 

The old timber bridges were due for upgrading and had previously been damaged by floods. 

The Rainforest Walk is a major drawcard for visitors on the Tarkine Drive in the State's North-West. 

Damage to the picnic area and BBQ facilities meant it was out of action to the public until it could be repaired. 

Recent visitors to the area were pleased that the reserve is once again open and no signs of any vandalism evident, making it once again a family friendly experience well worth the drive.

“People who would go out of their way to destroy public facilities should take a long hard look at themselves.”

“This action harms the whole community as our taxes will go into the repairs instead of other areas.” says Mayor Quilliam. 

“As with any vandalism I encourage people to report this type of behaviour to the Police”
