Circular Head Council has a goal to divert 50 per cent of our waste from landfill by 2024. 

A draft of the Waste Strategy 2019-24 is now out for public consultation. 

The strategy’s objective is to grow a sustainable community through initiatives which encourage discarded materials to be used as resources and to be re-used and recycled, rather than sent to landfill.

“Council is committed to improving the way we manage waste and looking for progressive and affordable ways to minimise waste to landfill,” Circular Head Mayor Daryl Quilliam says. 

“The way we manage waste individually, as families and as businesses will impact on how successful the strategy is. That’s why it would be great for the community to tell us what they think about the strategy.” 

Key actions in the draft strategy include looking at the feasibility of kerbside collection of organics such as food and garden waste, the investigation of a ‘tip shop’ to encourage residents to reuse items, and a review of the ticket system at White Hills Waste Transfer Station.
