The Circular Head Community Wellbeing Centre is a step closer to operation with the appointment of former local Stephen Stone as centre manager.

Raised in Smithton, Stephen is a qualified exercise physiologist and will return to his roots to take on the role from February 4.

Belgravia Leisure will now be on the look out to fill a range of positions, including swim teachers and lifeguards for the new pool.

Construction work recommenced at the site this week following a short break over the new year period.

Circular Head Mayor Daryl Quilliam said steady progress has been made with the roof now completed and a number of the external walls of the building in place.

“At this stage the construction is due to be completed by the second week in April, with the centre likely to open some time during the school holidays in April,” Mayor Quilliam said.

Councillors last month adopted the proposed entry fees for the facility including single entry rates, multiple entry tickets, memberships, aqua fitness, swimming lessons and school groups.

Memberships start at $10.20 a week for adults or $7.10 for students and concession card holders, with single entry fees of $6.80 for adults and $5 for concession.

Special rates will be available for memberships taken out prior to the facility opening.
