Showcase of stars

Showcase of stars

Circular Head Football Association’s next generation of stars will storm the field this Saturday.

The Junior Gala Day is a showcase of promising talent and new players, and replaces the senior season starter of previous years.

President Thalia Bishops says the series shines the spotlight on the region’s up-and-coming players.

“The day is about the kids getting out there, having fun and participating,” says Bishop.

“It’s an opportunity to have a run around.”

Ten minute halves will be played in a round-robin format with the Under 10 action to kick off at 10am. The Under 14 competition will follow at 11am with the final to be played around 1pm, before the Under 17 teams take to the field from 1.30pm before a 3.50pm final showdown.

With the season set to start on Saturday April 6, the association has returned to a traditional 12 round format with four finals following a trial of 15 rounds plus finals last year.

With more than 600 members across all CHFA clubs last season, Bishop says the local league is in a strong position this season with registrations continuing to roll in.

“Our grassroots vision for the football association is to create a culture where players want to participate and enjoy the game from all walks of life,” she says.

Among the many opportunities CHFA is looking to bring to the region this season is the Auskick program. With more details to be released in the coming weeks, Bishop confirmed the junior development program will begin next term.

Bishop extended a thanks to former coordinator Phil Gale for delivering the development pathway in recent years.

Circular Head Football Association’s Junior Gala Day is on this Saturday (March 30) at Smithton Recreation Ground. Entry is $2 and all funds from the gate will go towards supporting clubs with player insurance costs.
