Women not close enough

NWBU.  The Tall Timbers Smithton Saints women played an unbearably close game on Tuesday night, eventually going down to their Ulverstone Hoppers opponents by just two agonising points.

In the men’s, the first quarter was full of errors by both teams however the Hoppers were superior to the Saints in their conversions, seeing them able to capitalise on opportunity.

Throughout the second and third quarters the Saints were able to take better care of the ball and remained competitive.

With just three minutes on the clock, the Saints closed the margin to just five points but were unable to execute defensively and fell short.

Coach Steve Poulter was pleased with the way the Saints restricted the Hoppers’ scoring.

“[There were] plenty of positives to come from the night,” he said. “Our defence was much improved, keeping one of the top teams to 73 points was a pretty good effort.”

The Saints will play a home game next Tuesday against the Wynyard Wildcats from 7pm.
