CNW. Another unbeaten innings to Circular Head Cowbiz Colts all-rounder Pearce Watling helped to secure two bonus points against Sheffield on Sunday.
In their first home game of the season, the Colts won the toss and sent the Mountaineers in to bat, with tight bowling restricting the away side to 5/68 as the innings wore on.
Colts opening bowler Tom Lewis returned late to clean up the bottom order, taking five wickets for two runs – on a hat-trick twice – to finish with impressive figures of 5/24 from 7.3 overs.
While Liam McLaren fell for a duck early in the chase, Ryan Nibbs (19) and Watling (70 no) took the Colts to 68 before Nibbs was caught; Watling continuing with Lachie Oates to reach the total in 20 overs.
Sixteen-year-old Watling has now scored 224 runs in four matches, returning to the form that led him to U/15 Tasmanian squad selection in January this year.
Two consecutive bonus-point wins have helped the Circular Head U/17 side to run clear on top of the ladder, as they prepare to take on third-place Devonport away from home this Sunday.
