Vying for T20 cup

BCL. Two half century performances settled a Burnie Cricket League Twenty20 victory for Perry’s Quality Meats Smithton Stars.

In the first of three rounds, Smithton met with Natone at Wivenhoe last Thursday for a twilight affair.

As Smithton Stars bowled the first 20 overs, coach Brent Burgess and Sean Ryan each put in four over performances to claim three and two wickets from 27 and 20 runs respectively. Aaron Tuxworth completed the bowling efforts with two catches. Following 20 overs, Natone finished the first innings on 8/122.

As the second innings ensued, Tuxworth secured a classy 51 not out while fellow opening batsman Alex King (0) failed to impact the scoreboard.

Ryan followed at third in the line up to make 56 runs before being bowled out while Burgess added three runs to the total.

After 18.1 overs, Smithton Stars chased down their opponents to win by eight wickets on 2/124.

The Smithton Stars will play round two of the Burnie Cricket League Twenty20 competition away on Sunday November 26 against Yolla from 11am.

The Tall Timbers Forest Stanley Demons will travel to Riana this Sunday (November 12) to play from 11am in round one of the T20 competition.
