Vacant land up for grabs

Sale. Sixteen local spots will be up for auction next week as Circular Head Council prepares to sell off properties.

There are 12 vacant blocks available in the historic mining town of Balfour, ranging from 511 to 2023 square metres.

At Plummers Road, South Forest there are three, each with sealed road frontage.

Also up for auction is the Trowutta Recreation Centre, which includes existing clubrooms, kitchen, toilet and shower facilities.

The properties at Balfour and South Forest have unpaid rates, according to the council, which began the process to sell them in 2015 however was delayed by legal action.

“We haven’t done anything without going through our lawyers first,” general manager Tony Smart said.

“Everything we’ve done is within the guidelines of the Local Government Act (1993) and any other guidelines in place.

“All of the owners of the properties are deceased or at the very least, council has no record of current addresses.

“No next of kin have come forward to claim ownership of the properties when council advertised its intention to sell.”

The auction will be held at the Council Chambers, Smithton on Saturday December 16 from 10am.

More information, including limitations and restrictions on the development of the properties, can be requested via the council’s website, at the Goldie Street offices or by phoning 6452 4800.
