CHFA. Irishtown experienced an unfamiliar result in Circular Head Football Association action on Saturday as Forest Stanley defeated the number-one side.
Playing in Stanley, the home side took advantage of the local support to claim the two goal lead in the first term.
Irishtown switched on in the second quarter as Kayne O’Halloran stormed the ground as he marked 200 club games with the Canaries. The side narrowed the scoreline to eight points at the main break.
Irishtown remained in tight contention throughout the third term as the margin stretched ever so slightly to nine points.
Forest Stanley’s James Jackson claimed three majors throughout the contest, ending a streak of inaccuracy as the Demons notched two majors in the final term to win 8.11.59 to 6.13.49.
In the other game, Redpa played a defensive home game against Scotchtown who ended the first quarter with five majors.
In the second term, the visiting side extended the margin slightly with two goals before stretching it out to 41 points at the final change.
Tiger Brent Burgess claimed four goals throughout the contest as Jai Willmot, Aaron Hine, Cam Wilson and Vincent Curtain bagged the Redlegs’ scores.
The visitors controlled play in the final quarter as Scotchtown earned 59 point victory, 13.14.92 to 4.9.33.
In the Reserves, Irishtown earned a victory over Forest Stanley, 3.3.21 to 13.14.92, while Scotchtown registered the win in a tight game against Redpa, 4.2.26 to 6.5.41.
The Redpa Under 17 unit prevented Scotchtown from entering into attack as the Redlegs secured an uncontested 114 point victory. However the Scotchtown defence distracted the Redpa offence on several occasions as the side notched more behinds than majors with 16.18.114.
Irishtown conceded just two goals to Forest Stanley in the other game, as the Canaries claimed the points with a 2.2.14 to 19.12.126 victory.
In the Under 14 action, both contests resulted in tight games as Irishtown and Redpa earned a three and seven point win respectively.
In the next round of the Circular Head Football Association, the second last round of the season, Scotchtown and Irishtown will play in Smithton while Forest Stanley and Redpa play in Stanley.
