Two rounds remain

NWJFL. With two rounds of the North West Junior Football League remaining, the Circular Head Giants Under 14s will next meet with fourth placed Burnie before second placed Devonport.

Following a bye in round seven, Circular Head hosted Burnie on Sunday June 18 for a round eight clash. As the opposition booted 17.7.109, Alwyn Russell, Brandon Stokes and Tarkyn Force each earned a major for the home side to finish 3.1.19.

The following week, Latrobe earned a 7.7.49 to 2.4.16 victory with Cohan Abbott and Hunter Stokes booting Circular Head’s goals before Aaron Lardner secured the Giants’ only goal of the 1.3.9 to 9.7.61 clash with Wynyard in round 10.

Ulverstone booted 31 majors and 13 points last Sunday (July 9) while holding the Giants scoreless for four quarters.

Alwyn Russell (two goals), Cohan Abbott and Hunter Stokes continued a fine season on Sunday as they secured 4.7.31 for Circular Head while Penguin finished the game off with 9.5.59.

For the Under 12s, Circular Head could muster only one point during round eight against Burnie before a disappointing one point loss against Latrobe in round nine where Liam Corrigan and Dylan Grey secured majors.

Emmett Gale was the sole goal kicker for the Giants against Wynyard in round 10 before Damon Joyce, Jacob Furphy and William Young kicked the majors for Circular Head the following week against Ulverstone.

Sunday’s game was a close encounter for Circular Head who pressured their Penguin opponents to make sloppy mistakes until the final siren sounded, 2.12.24 to 1.2.8, with Isaac McGlone scoring for the visiting Giants.

The Under 12s will meet with third placed Burnie this Sunday (July 23) at West Park before hosting second placed Devonport in the final round on Sunday July 30.
