NTFL. After an unfortunate spell with injuries, the Van Diemen’s Land Smithton Saints have won their second game in a row, placing them in clear third place on the ladder.
The Saints defeated Penguin at the weekend 14.22 (106) to 11.4 (70).
Leading at every break, the Saints increased their lead as the match went on, stretching a seven-point lead at quarter time to a 17-point lead at half time.
The third quarter saw the teams tough it out, with both sides kicking three goals two behinds to keep the margin at 17 points going into the final quarter.
The Saints dominated the final quarter, kicking four goals seven behinds to Penguin’s two goals, to take out the match by 36 points.
Scott Bryan, Matt Elliott, Bon Radford and Zaryn Monson each kicked two goals for the winning Saints. Christopher Smith, Aaron Tuxworth and Kalon House were named best for the Saints.
In the reserves, the Saints went down to Penguin by 19 points, 5.10 (40) to 8.11 (59).
The U19s saw the Saints thrash Penguin by a whopping 169 points.
The Smithton Saints will face Wynyard in their next match on Saturday August 7.
