The Rotary Club of Smithton hosted the Rotary District 9830 (Tasmania) Conference on the weekend. The event was an unequivocal success with positive feedback from Rotarians and guests who ventured from all parts of the state.
The Saturday night dinner was a huge success, feeding 305, with ‘young’ Rotarians dancing away the night.
The keynote speakers, Marcus Akuhata-Brown, Rabia Sidique and Allana Corbin were well received, the Rotary content just as well and a special mention to Forest Primary School’s “Spice Kids” who received a standing ovation on Friday night. Commissioner Darren Hine opened the conference returning to his roots to deliver the opening address.
We were pleased to be able to use local facilities and groups throughout the weekend. The conference itself was at the Smithton Christian Fellowship, The Paul Harris Fellow Function at Agritas Trade College and breakfasts, Sunday lunch and the Saturday night dinner were held at the Circular Head Community and Recreation Centre. The Emmerton Park Auxiliary, Soroptimists, Circular Head Giants ladies committee and most of the primary schools kept us well fed.
We would like to sincerely thank the Circular Head community, led by the local council, for all their support throughout the planning and presentation of the conference. Most of our sponsors were local businesses and people and we are very grateful.
Once again Circular Head has shown we can provide an event of absolute quality when called upon to do so.
