Text of a lifetime

Thalia Bishop is $10,000 richer after picking the best-dressed celebrity at the TV Week Logies Awards, Carrie Bickmore.

Prize. Irishtown’s Thalia Bishop is $10,000 richer after picking the TV Week Logie Awards’ best-dressed celebrity at Sunday night’s red-carpet event.

Thalia, who watches the Logies every year, said she loves seeing the fashions on the night.

As she watched, she noted The Project presenter Carrie Bickmore looked “stunning” in a Paolo Sebastian gown.

She texted the star’s name to the Myer Best Dressed Competition hotline, thinking not much of it.

“I thought she was absolutely beautiful, just very elegant,” she said. “I loved it.”

Luckily for Thalia, the majority of viewers agreed, giving all those who voted for the Network Ten identity a spot in the draw to win a $10,000 Myer gift card.

Thalia, a teacher’s aide at Forest Primary School and St Peter Chanel Catholic School, admitted she is usually asleep before the end of the Logies and tends to set the TV to record. However, this year she thought she would stay up and watch the event in full.

About 20 minutes later, she sent off another text.

Soon after, presenters Jennifer Hawkins and Richard Wilkins announced the competition winner: Thalia Bishop.

“They didn’t pronounce it quite right, but I jumped up and said to my husband, ‘“That’s me!’”

Instantly, her mobile started to ring with calls of congratulations from family and friends. “I couldn’t get off my phone ’til near midnight!”

The mother-of-three laughed when describing the moment her eldest, Kaylah, 9, heard the news. “She said, ‘Does that mean when can go shopping?’”

For now, Thalia knows she will buy a KitchenAid mixer, something she has wanted for some time. The rest will be decided with help from her husband and children, Kaylah, Kohan, 6, and Isaac, 4.
