Session. February is an opportune time to consider study options for the year and Smithton LINC will hold a Learning Options afternoon today (Thursday February 4) to help.
From 12-5pm community members are invited to the Smithton Library to speak with Sabena Lund about study options at the LINC, TasTAFE, Circular Head Trade Training Centre and Agritas Trade College.
There will also be an opportunity to speak with Mike Harris about the University of Tasmania (UTAS) University Preparation Program (UPP) from 12-3pm. Bookings are encouraged.
UPP offers those interested in studying through UTAS the opportunity to gain essential skills for managing study in the higher education environment.
Study will be supported by volunteers and staff of the LINC who will run a weekly study group in Smithton.
This program is for anyone wanting to build their skills for success at university, including students straight out of Year 12, mature age students or students who did not complete year 11 or 12 (or did so a long time ago) and students whose first language is not English.
UPP is a bridging course. It will help participants learn how to learn and extend problem solving skills; improve communication skills, in both writing and speaking; generally develop personal confidence in their ability to succeed at tertiary study; and gain an overall understanding of university life and culture.
People can also visit LINC today and have a general browse and collect a UTAS or TasTAFE showbag.
