Leisure. An entertaining bunch, the Circular Head Senior Citizens’ Club has a calendar of social events coming up.
Starting off with an indoor bowls carnival, the club will welcome fellow coastal clubs for a shot at the shield this Saturday (June 16) at the Seniors Centre from 10am to 3pm.
More than 20 teams are expected to turn out to contest the annual competition. Spectators are welcome to watch the action, light catering will be available.
“These carnivals are very popular,” says club member Coral Blake, “with teams from Port Sorell and along the coast with the local teams joining in together for an enjoyable day.
“Along with the laughs and jokes, it becomes very competitive!”
The Seniors Citizens’ Club meets for a game of bowls at the Seniors Centre every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 1.30pm to 4pm, new players are always welcome.
Each Friday, an hour-long exercise class is held to keep the social bunch active.
“The club not only focuses on activity but also on enjoyment and being happy,” says Coral.
“With an instructor [this class] helps to keep us active and move more freely as we age.”
On the last Tuesday of every month, an afternoon of entertainment awaits at the Seniors Centre. Sure to entertain, the program always features plenty of laughs with an array of acts and guest artists to take the stage.
During the winter months, an Old Time Dance with toe-tapping music will be held. With more details to come, anyone able and willing to take part is encouraged to dust off their dancing shoes in preparation.
Lastly, club members are currently rehearsing to perform some sea shanties for both the Circular Head and Wynyard communities to see a season of entertainment out.
All of these activities and many more are open to the public. For more information contact Coral Blake on 6452 2089.
