CHCA. In the first six rounds of the 2017-18 Circular Head Cricket Association season, Irishtown Cricket Club has secured the top spot, recording five victories.

The ladder leaders’ score sheet is blemished only by a draw in round five as the result of a washed out game.

Meanwhile, Trowutta Combine follow in the second spot and Forest Stanley and Marrawah cricket clubs in third and fourth respectively.

With a combined total of 782 runs, Irishtown has fostered the league’s number one batsman and bowler in Shaun Hammond.

In five games, Hammond has secured a total of 340 runs with a highest score of 132 as well as claiming 13 wickets while conceding 86 runs according the the official MyCricket website.

Neville Bellinger of Forest Stanley follows Hammond in the batting records with a high score of 71 runs and a total of 142 while Matthew Saward of Marrawah rings in the top three with 139 runs and a highest score of 73.

Trowutta Combine bowler Mitchell Heald has taken eight runs in the season to date while conceding 134 as teammate Ben Revell has claimed seven wickets from 84 runs to sit comfortably amongst the league’s best.

With five catches taken in the field and one stumping, Isaac Perry is an ever reliable fielder for the Shamrocks joined by teammates Joel Keep and Anthony McAlister in the top 10 with three and two catches respectively.

Meanwhile Jaiden Popowski of Marrawah and David Buchanan of Forest Stanley follow with three wickets from five and four games each.

In Tall Timbers Twenty20 Cup action, Irishtown has claimed two from two ahead of the third round set to be played in Smithton on Thursday January 25 ahead of the final next month.

In the first round, Forest Stanley met with Trowutta Combine to win by 16 runs while Irishtown defeated Marrawah by 26 runs.

The Demons continued their success in the second round snagging a victory against the Bulls as the Shamrocks chased down the Blues to win by nine wickets.

While Marrawah has been unable to claim a T20 victory, batsman Saward has topped the statistics with seven sixes and 12 fours to total 126 runs and a high score of 94.

Forest Stanley batsmen Shane Dennison and Kayden Stein follow as second and third in the player stats with 77 and 60 runs respectively.

In eight overs across two games, Johnny Swan of Irishtown has topped bowling with five wickets from 30 runs. He is followed by Marrawah bowler Jonathan Arnold with four wickets and 46 runs and Forest Stanley player Adam Milner with three wickets and 35 conceded runs.

The Demons’ Zachary Barber and the Bulls’ Steve Fisher both hold three catches in the field followed by Hammond in third spot with two catches and one assisted run out.

The Circular Head Cricket Association 2017-18 season will resume this Saturday (January 6) when Forest Stanley hosts Marrawah and Trowutta Combine meets with Irishtown in Smithton from 10am.
