Severe losses for U/22s

NWBU. The Tall Timbers Smithton Saints U/22 men and women have had tough starts to the season as both teams recorded another loss on Friday.

The women met their Ulverstone rivals for the second time this season; whilst they took a two-point win in their initial encounter, the Saints fell behind on Friday unable to match the Hoppers.

Without key player and leading scorer Tyla Free, coach Laine Tuxworth said the team “gave everything they had to fill her spot” but were unable to convert on the court.

Hannah Jackson and Sarah Jaeger served the team well with their “very physical games”, but with the Hoppers’ experienced team and sharp shooting, they were too much for the young Saints.

Taking a 43-point victory, the Hoppers defeated the Saints 81-38.

Jaeger took top scoring with 14, followed by Jackson on eight and Brooke Gorringe on six.

The men also suffered a severe loss when the Ulverstone Hoppers ran away with a 34-point game at 79-45.

Tuesday night’s games were postponed and will be played this Friday (October 30) at the Smithton Sports Centre against Devonport Warriors.
