Parade. Smithton Primary School classrooms resemble the workshop at the North Pole this week as students prepare for the festivities of the season.

Wrapping presents, making giant decorative candy and decorating the sleigh is all in a days’ work for the local students who are channelling their inner elf for the Smithton Christmas Parade.

Hosted by Circular Head Council and Rotary Club of Smithton, the annual event will be held next Friday (December 15) when schools, businesses and community groups will take part in the annual event.

Joined by Smithton High School students, the children will dress up and wave from the sleigh or walk alongside the parade.

Parade goers will gather at Smithton Recreation Ground in Grant Street from 6pm before departing at 7pm. Community members will line the streets to welcome the parade which will complete two laps of Nelson, King, Emmett and Smith streets before returning to Smithton Recreation Ground. Walkers are encouraged to join the parade at the corner of Nelson and Gibson streets.

Follow up the evening’s festivities the next day at the Stanley Christmas Parade.

Meeting at Stanley Recreation Ground from 10.30am, the parade will leave for the main street at 11am led by the Wynyard Municipal Band.
