Hockey U/16s. Following a three-week break, the young Smithton Saints revealed their skilful line up to City Marians Red on Friday evening during Hockey North West’s twelfth round.
Proving the hiatus had not disadvantaged the side, the Saints dominated with an uncontested four-goal win on home turf.
A deft passage of play allowed the Saints to capitalise within the opening 20 seconds, followed by three more goals in the ensuing 10 minutes from Sam Porteus-Smith (three) and Darcey Smith, to see the Saints lead 4-0.
The Saints continued their dominance in the second half but despite earning numerous penalty corners found it difficult to convert.
Losing young gun Henry Wright to injury, the Saints were unable to register another goal and played out the remainder of the game without impacting the scoreboard.
Despite the uneventful second half, Smithton secured the victory which will put them in good stead when they challenge Burnie Baptist in Smithton tomorrow night (Friday July 29).
