Restricting runs

Over 50s. Tight bowling from Marrawah against Hobart-based Thylacines provided a relatively low run chase, setting up the side for a four-wicket win.

Thylacines batted first and finished with 5/146, with Hayden Nicholls snaring 3/24 and taking all three wickets in the same over.

The fielding award for the “least outstanding effort” went to Brian Neilson for a classic drop and kick, while the Mayor introduced a new term “the smoother” to describe the moment a fielder catches the ball in their stomach.

Marrawah batted after lunch and reached the target within 32 overs for the loss of six wickets, with Bruce Grey and Dallas Burke both scoring 41 to get their side over the line.

The side’s next match will be against Dover at Redpa on the March long weekend.
