Queechy quashes winning hopes

GNL women. The Rocky Cape Tavern Saints travelled the long road to Launceston on Saturday to play fourth-placed Queechy Penguins in the Greater Northern League’s round 11 proceedings.

An even match ensued from the starting whistle with neither team able to secure the ball in their attacking half for a prolonged period of time.

The Saints held their structure well, executing the game plan effectively to pressure Queechy’s defence.

For these efforts the Saints were rewarded with a well worked goal from the stick of Kira Johnston, however the Penguins responded shortly after with their own goal to level scores at 1-1 at half time.

Laura Korpershoek continued her season’s good form, working tirelessly alongside Leah House and Alex Mainwaring to create headaches for Queechy’s forwards and set up attacking opportunities for their own forward line.

Allie Roberston’s determination in offense earned her a well deserved goal to see the Saints with a one-goal advantage, however Queechy soon responded with a goal of their own to finalise the scoring at 2-2.
