Playing in the elements

CHHA. Wind and rain made for poor conditions in Monday night’s two Circular Head Hockey Association games.

In the evening’s first game, between Division Two’s Robins and Tigers, players were in a constant battle with the elements. Play moved from end to end with neither team able to capitalise on scoring opportunities and all goals scored off penalty corners.

The first quarter ended with a goal to Robins’ Julia Gale with under two minutes left on the clock. By half time, the scores were levelled thanks to Tigers’ Melissa Poke with less than three minutes to go. In the third, Robins’ Leah House lifted the score to 2-1 where it remained until the final whistle.

The next game between Robins and Irishtown in Div Three saw Robins take the points in a 8-1 thrashing.

Saturday’s Div Three match between Mustangs and Tigers finished with a 4-2 win for Tigers with Stacey Champion-Williams and Lucy Carson, of Mustangs, earning votes.

In the next round of the Circular Head Hockey Association season, Robins and Mustangs will play a Div Three game this Saturday (July 28) at 11am. On Monday (July 30), Div Two teams Irishtown and Tigers will play at 6.30pm followed by the Div Three equivalent at 8pm.
