A night at the pictures

Film. The Crystal Theatre Film Society is set to take members on a trip around the world in 2014 – all from the comfort of a seat at the Stanley Town Hall.

‘The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’ will take patrons to India, ‘The Band’s Visit’ to Israel, and ‘Life is Beautiful’ to Italy.

Films are generally screened for members on the last Friday of the month at 7.30pm.

Film Society member Maureen Webb says, “It’s all about having a night out at the pictures, having a laugh, and a cuppa afterwards”.

She welcomes new film society members.

Starting the year, on Friday January 31, will be ‘We Bought a Zoo’, for kids and the family. Later in the year, ‘Labyrinth’ and ‘Whale Rider’ will be screened in the school holidays.

One of the stand-out films for the year will be ‘Some Like it Hot’, starring Marilyn Monroe, a classic from 1959, considered by many to be the best comedy ever made.

And the variety will continue with ‘Now You See Me’ (Jesse Eisenberg and Woody Harrelson) and ‘Hope Springs’ (Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones).

This year’s film program is available at various outlets, from Marrawah to Rocky Cape.

For more information or for a copy of the program, contact Maureen Webb on 6458 1158.
