Introduction. Having slotted seamlessly into the role of club ambassador at the Van Diemen’s Land Smithton Saints, Rebekah Gale is quick to admit she has a busy year ahead.
The 21-year-old, who has been involved in the club for the last two years, takes on the position while currently juggling a Diploma of Children’s Services and Certificates III and IV in Interior Decoration.
“It’s going to be busy for me,” she said. “[But] I like being busy, it gives me something to do.
“It will be a good experience – it’s been helpful being among the club for a couple of years already.”
From behind the scenes work in organising functions to public interviews at the end of season’s Baldock Medal count, Rebekah has embraced the all-encompassing role with enthusiasm and the full support of the club behind her.
“Nick [Bellinger, club president] was asking me about it towards the end of last year,” she said. “I’ve always helped out, but now it’ll be a bit more full on.”
Every club in the NTFL nominates an ambassador, whose work is closely followed throughout the year and judged for the ‘Ambassador Quest’, with the winner revealed at the Baldock Medal count.
“I guess there’s a bit of pressure,” she laughed. “It’ll be nice to win it for Smithton.”
