NWFL. The Greenham Tasmania Circular Head Giants took the Bass Highway to Penguin for round 10 of the North West Football League on Saturday.
The visitors led at the first break before the home side narrowed the margin to three points by the half-time siren.
The Two Blues laced up in the third to add five majors and five behinds to the tally while conceding one Giant goal.
Circular Head fought for a return in the fourth, led by Guy Kearnes and Tyson Armstrong with major contributions from Damon Smith, Matt Elliott and Woody French however were defeated 13.11.89 to 9.5.59.
The final siren disrupted a Penguin victory in the Reserves game, ending in a draw.
Despite the work of Zaryn Monson and Damien Barker, the visitors trailed throughout the clash as one goal separated the scores at the last change.
The Giants pushed to pull up even in the fourth quarter before a set shot in front of goal threatened to defeat the visitors. The final siren distracted the Penguin player, resulting in a 6.7.43 draw.
In the Under 18 action, Circular Head sealed the victory in the first term with an uncontested six goal margin.
Penguin notched a major by the main break followed by a second in the third despite the mounting pressure of Circular Head, leading by 79 points at the final change.
A five goal effort by Toby Reeve supported by four majors from Bailey Grey and three from Brody Brown secured the 3.4.22 to 15.11.101 victory.
Nadine Crole and Alana Jago both secured majors in the Women’s defeat, 19.6.120 to 2.2.14.
In the North West Junior Football League matches in Smithton on Sunday, the Junior Girls were unable to put a score on the board to be defeated 10.14.74.
The Under 14 side dominated in the 5.6.36 to 3.2.20 victory, led by Brandon Woolley with two majors strongly supported by Ky Lee, Brandon Stokes, Tyler Young, Cooper Mallinson, Eli Bellinger and Jesse Lee. Kalon Nicholls, Lachlan Wheatley and Dylan Grey also claimed majors throughout the contest.
The Under 12 side claimed a thrilling victory as Circular Head worked together for a team victory.
Xavier Heald notched three goals throughout the contest as Michael Innes-Smith, Isaac Innes-Smith, Mason Brown, Nash Walker and Daniel Peacock shared the remaining scoring. Jacob Furphy, Ryder Marthick, Emmett Gale, Austin McLaren, Ellie Poke and Jakhan Wells impressed across the field with features in the top players.
The Circular Head Giants will meet with East Devonport in Smithton this Saturday (June 23) in the next round of the North West Football League.
