Men soldier on

NWBU. The Tall Timbers Smithton Saints suffered another round of losses on Tuesday night as they travelled to take on the Burnie Tigers.

In round 16 of the North West Basketball Union’s senior roster, the women couldn’t find their groove resulting in an 87-49 defeat.

The men also started behind the eight ball with Dylan Warren, Ty Stewart, Danyon Saville and Joel Quilliam all out with injuries and Michael Nutt unavailable.

Facing the league leaders, this put the Saints in an undesirable position.

Starting positively, the Saints slipped just before quarter time allowing the Tigers to accumulate some points to their total.

This continued throughout the second and third quarters, and when Bradlee Hardy suffered an injury in the third, the Saints were put under further strain.

However the Saints fought back in the last to restrict their opponents slightly.

Soldiering on with six players, coach Steve Poulter was impressed with the team effort commending Thomas Quilliam and Bzuayehu Heres for their resilience under the difficult circumstances.

The Saints will host a home game on Tuesday against the Devonport Warriors.
