Loss to ladder leaders

BCL. Perry’s Quality Meats Smithton Stars endured an agonisingly close defeat at the hands of ladder leaders Natone on Saturday during round 16 of the Burnie Cricket League.

Batting first, opening batsmen Aaron Tuxworth (38) and Ben Revell (10) made a good start followed by coach Brent Burgess (29) in the middle order, to see the Stars reach all out for 117 in 45.1 overs.

In the field, Smithton’s opposition were strong contenders from the outset. Sean Ryan (3/36) continued his flawless form while Revell (2/20) and Burgess (2/22) also claimed wickets. Revell, David Blake and Lachlan Oates each made a catch in the field however it was not enough for the Stars to prevail as Natone surged on to reach 7/118 in 34.1 overs.

Following a bye, Tall Timbers Forest Stanley Demons will also sit out this weekend’s proceedings after Ridgley forfeited their team earlier this season. However Smithton Stars will meet Myalla in Smithton this Saturday from 12pm.
