Long road to Bass Hwy funds

Budget. Federal Member for Braddon Justine Keay said upgrades to the Bass Highway between Marrawah and Smithton had been left out of the budget.

“I recently collected 670 signatures in just over a month in support of upgrading this section of the highway, which demonstrates how important this issue is for the community,” Ms Keay said.

“While the Bass Highway is continuing to carry increased freight volumes out of Circular Head and increasing tourism numbers are having an impact, both levels of government continue to ignore calls from the community and council for work to be done on the section of road between Burnie and Marrawah.”

Ms Keay said unfortunately the Bass Highway was not the only key infrastructure project to miss out.

“It is telling Tasmania was not even mentioned in the treasurer’s speech,” Ms Keay said.
