Learner rider

Speeding. A learner motorcyclist clocked travelling 180 kilometres per hour on the Bass Highway, Smithton has had his motorbike seized for 28 days.

At 4.45pm on Friday, officers from the Western District Road Safety Task Force detected a grey 2009 Hyosung GT650 motorcycle travelling at high speeds near Backline Road.

The rider, a 24-year-old Smithton man, was restricted to a maximum speed limit of 80km/h at the time of the offence.

The penalty for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h is disqualification for a period of four months, six demerit points and a fine to the value of $914.25.
