CHHA. Irishtown displayed poise, finesse and vision during their encounter with Mustangs in round 14 of the Circular Head Hockey Association.
As the Division Two clash ensued, Irishtown gained possession and moved into offence early however Mustangs’ fullbacks Melinda Gray and Tei Popowski kept the onslaught clear of goalkeeper Jodie Popowski.
When a penalty stroke was awarded to Irishtown, Alex Mainwaring guided the ball with ease to secure the first goal. Maddison Poke increased the margin when she slid two goals past the keeper whilst wreaking havoc in the forwardline.
Mustangs’ Farrah Henderson worked relentlessly in the midfield linking with Ara Popowski and Daria Reeve up forward.
A final goal settled the game, secured by Paige Ferguson, for Irishtown to take the points in the uncontested four goal win.
Tigers and Robins met the following morning in a tightly contested clash. Play shot from end to end as both teams gained attacking opportunities, however Tigers claimed the first score with a field goal made by Melissa Poke. A penalty corner followed within two minutes to be converted by Irene Grey.
Following the half time break, Robins challenged the margin as Jess Smith narrowed the score to 2-1 for the scoreboard to remain untouched for the remainder of the game.
In Div Three games, Mustangs played a double header first meeting with Irishtown to be defeated 1-0 before Tigers claimed an uncontested four goal win.
Round 15 will be played between Mustangs and Robins on Friday night from 8pm and Tigers and Irishtown from 11am on Saturday. Tigers will play a double header in Div Three meeting with Irishtown from 3.30pm before Mustangs at 5pm.
