Greens’ Braddon candidate

Politics. The Tasmanian Greens has announced Jarrod Edwards will stand for the seat of Braddon at the upcoming by-election.

Mr Edwards was named Tasmania’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year in 2016. He is an Indigenous ranger who is responsible for the Preminghana Indigenous Protected Area.

“I am passionate about protecting cultural heritage, defending the environment and standing up for social justice in my community,” Mr Edwards said.

“The people of north west Tasmania deserve representatives who prioritise the essential needs of all of us and look after the place for our children and grandchildren.”

The local by-election is one of five to be held across Australia in Perth, Fremantle, Longman, Mayo and Braddon following the High Court decision into dual citizenship status.

The by-election for the House of Representatives will be held Saturday July 28.
