NWFL. The Greenham Tasmania Circular Head Giants could not make it past the North West Football League Elimination Final in Latrobe on Sunday.
In season-ending affairs, Circular Head were matched with Latrobe in the Seniors game and Penguin in the Reserves.
Latrobe started scoring strong with 10 majors in the first quarter and just one goal from Circular Head in response.
The home side continued its tough form, securing a further nine goals in the second alongside a 103 point margin at the break.
An uphill battle for the Giants didn’t slow after half time as the side added only its third goal to the scoreboard in the third quarter while the opposition booted its 25th.
The Giants attempted a final term turnaround as the team stood strong in defence to provide multiple attacking opportunities, converted by Brody Brown with three goals and Kalon House, Matt Elliott and Woody French.
Ultimately, Circular Head conceded 27.16.178 to 16.8.44.
Harry Jaeger, Damien Barker, Nathan Bransden, Ryan Grey, Brown and Elliott earned the best player honours in a disheartening end to the season.
In the Reserves, Circular Head kept quiet with only two majors secured throughout the match by Nick Ling and Zaryn Monson.
Penguin entered into attack early with an uncontested five goal quarter followed by a further two in the second.
The Giants added their first goal in the second term before allowing the opposition to double the score and secure a 99 point margin in the third.
Circular Head kicked its second goal in the last quarter as Joel Keep, Luke Magee, David Blake, Connor Smith, Mason Chatwin and Ling attempted to smother the onslaught.
The final siren sounded to reveal a 22.13.145 to 2.0.12 score.
