I was fortunate enough to be part of a Remote Area Fire Team (RAFT) deployment from New South Wales that worked out of Smithton earlier in the month and I would like to pass on the thanks of our two crews for the wonderful hospitality that was given to us.
We had the pleasure of staying in the caravan park in Stanley and then being fed and watered at the staging area at Smithton.
It was a pleasure to be in the community, although for a short time, providing some help and receive so many thanks.
We all have been in similar situations over the years with long drawn-out campaign fires, they are both taxing on the body and mind of all who live there, so our thoughts and good wishes go to everyone who lives in the north-west region. Tasmania is going through a difficult time over the last few weeks and the chances of significant rains don’t look very promising, so it looks as if we will be back again to help out.
I couldn’t think of a better community to help.
All the best to Tasmania Fire Service staff and the wonderful helpers in your staging areas.
