Elliott’s state call up

U/23. Circular Head Giants player Matt Elliott will debut in a Tassie guernsey this Sunday for the State Under 23 squad.

The Tasmanian U/23 side will host Western Australia at Aurora Stadium this Sunday (June 5) in a feature match from 1pm.

The local midfielder will strap on his boots for a run in the forward line in his first state representative appearance.

“I’m keen to get out and play against the best guys my age,” Elliott said of the upcoming contest.

The 21-year-old’s playing career to date includes several impressive performances in the opening rounds of the North West Football League this year, alongside coaching the Giants’ U/16 squad in the North West Junior Football League.

Elliott also led Circular Head Football Association’s senior Forest Stanley side to a victorious Grand Final last season.

Despite little opportunity to work with the U/23s prior to Sunday’s kick off, Elliott said his knowledge of fellow NWFL players would assist him in his position on the ground.

“I’ve had a couple of good games with Smithton this season so my confidence is there.”
