NWFL. Three Smithton Football Club players played milestone matches during round four of the North West Football League on Saturday.
Damien Medwin celebrated 200 club games while coach Aaron Tuxworth and Zack Mitchell played 150 and 100 games respectively.
The Circular Head Giants travelled to meet with Latrobe Demons, however a slow start proved detrimental for the remainder of the game.
Coach Tuxworth said this needs to be addressed immediately: “To the boys’ credit they really fought back in the second and third quarter but patchy football doesn’t win games of football.”
Down by 29 points at the first break, 7.2.44 to 2.3.15, the Giants were unable to breach this margin in the second with scores sitting at 9.6.60 to 4.8.32 at the main break.
Despite a six goal haul by Medwin, the Demons held onto a 25 point lead at the final break, 10.10.70 to 6.9.45.
Circular Head’s backline, led by Chase Armstrong, Nathan Drake and Joel Poke, rallied hard to repel their opponents’ offence however Latrobe extended their lead to claim the 15.19.109 to 9.11.65 victory.
In the Reserves action, Circular Head struggled to impact the score board, recording just four majors throughout the four quarters while booting 11 singles to finish 4.11.35 to Latrobe’s 9.8.62.
The Under 18s also played a low scoring game, mustering just three goals in four quarters.
Latrobe held a steady lead throughout the first three quarters before increasing the margin to a large 9.15.69 to 3.3.21 in the fourth for the win.
The Circular Head Giants will host Wynyard Cats in Smithton this Saturday (April 29) during round five of the North West Football League.
