Event. Fancy a cuppa? Look no further than the Soroptimist International of Circular Head’s Biggest Afternoon Tea.
In conjunction with the Cancer Council’s upcoming event, Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, the Soroptimists will host an afternoon fundraiser.
Inviting the community to pop in for a coffee and some “tasty treats” at Rural Health this Friday, Soroptimist Margaret Williams said organisers “were hoping for a good turnout”.
“We’re urging the community to come along to eat some delicious treats in support of the Cancer Council,” she said.
ABMT is officially on Thursday May 28, however the Soroptimists are hoping the Friday will be more convenient for the community and encourage more people along.
“We’re providing a service to the community, raising money for a good cause” Margaret said.
Costing $5, the afternoon is open to all, with the option to eat in or takeaway.
Raffle and door prizes donated by Soroptimist and Circular Head Florist are up for grabs, and a guest speaker from the Cancer Council will be present.
This is the first ABMT fundraiser the Soroptimists have held; the group supporting breast cancer appeals in the past.
Margaret said the thought that “tomorrow it could be one of us” who could be diagnosed prompted the ladies to support this year’s event, helping to raise funds for research, prevention and support for cancer sufferers.
When asked how the Soroptimists manage to organise so many events and throw their support behind such initiatives, Margaret simply said: “We have such a vibrant committee, we’re just a cohesive and cooperative committee who work well together”.
Currently with 26 members, three of whom joined in 2015, Margaret welcomed interested ladies along to the group’s monthly meetings held locally on the third Monday of every month.
