CHNA. Competition was strong in the Grade 3,4,5 Grand Final of the Circular Head Netball Association as players gave it their all.
Playing out the season in the Smithton High School gymnasium, the final round-robin tournament was played at the Smithton outdoor courts in wet conditions last Tuesday (August 8).
The five teams played so well that it came down to the final game to determine the overall winner, finishing with Rusty and Quiksilver tied and forcing a count back of points.
The count back resulted in another tie the winner was determined from the last Quiksilver and Rusty game, to see Rusty as the 2017 premiers.
CHNA president Rebecca Wilson says it has been a successful junior roster with an increase in the number of children playing.
“This year playing the roster indoors proved to be very beneficial for the children with how much they improved throughout the season,” she said.
“It was very rewarding to see. It’s promising and exciting to see so many young ones really loving the sport which gives netball a very positive future.”
Even the award winners came down to the wire with three Best and Fairest winners, all on 12 points: Ava Gale, Rhiannon Field and Avaliah Lardner, with Sophie Coates taking out the runner-up on eight points.
“We finished off the season with the awards, supper and a little bit of a dance,” Wilson says.
“I truly enjoyed this season’s junior roster, it was very rewarding and I look forward to another amazing year next season.”
