Cricket. At Wivenhoe on Sunday, CH Cowbiz Colts won their grand final replay and collected a bonus point along the way in their season opener.

Burnie Hurricanes won the toss and elected to bat first and got off to a solid start to be 0/25 after 10 overs. Shaun Blake claimed the first wicket, clean bowling Riley James for 11. This left state players Brodie Hayes and James Odgers at the crease and they were both looking good until Pearce Watling got one through the gate to bowl Odgers for 11 leaving Burnie 2/47.

Liam McLaren partnered Watling, together bowling for an 18-over period where they applied pressure and claimed five wickets between them: Watling 3/23 and McLaren 2/18.

Being 6/87, Burnie then fought back to finish the innings all out for 135 runs. Sam Muller 2/11 bowled well in the final overs.

In the chase the Cowbiz Colts’ new opening pair Lewis Nicholls and Sam Lewis put on 28 runs in just seven overs before Lewis was caught for 13 and Nicholls bowled shortly after for 18.

Captain Watling was LBW for 11 with CH looking shaky at 3/63.

Connor Smith and McLaren then put on a 30-run partnership in quick time before Smith was bowled two balls before drinks for 18.

After drinks break, McLaren took over the bulk of the scoring and punished any loose balls finishing 43 not out whilst partnering with Isaac Perry (10no) to see CH pass Burnie’s score in the 33 over. CH finished at 5/137.

CH Cowbiz Colts’ next game will be against Ulverstone at Stanley on November 8.
