The Circular Head Colts Under 15 side has started the Cricket North West season with a loss.
Playing a home game in round one, Circular Head met with the Wynyard Blues in Stanley last Wednesday.
The home side elected to bat the first innings after winning the toss, to send Jotham Saward and Cooper Mallinson in to bat. Saward was bowled out for a duck before Mallinson followed soon after, struck out on one run.
Eli Bellinger (6) and Kalon Nicholls (12) started the innings with a promising partnership before Bellinger was bowled out and Nicholls caught.
Kade Hardy (1), Tomas Coker (3) and Solomon Tuxworth (1) followed in the middle order before Jonah Evans stepped onto the field to slog 16 runs, including one boundary ball.
Rylee Popowski (0), Zac Spinks (2) and Eli Arnold (1 not out) batted out the final overs before the Blues ended the Colts’ innings on 68 runs in 19.1 overs.
As Wynyard took the bat, an opening partnership between Axis Scolyer (12) and Jakob Dywer (14) put the visitors in a smooth spot.
That was until Colts bowler Tuxworth and fielder Nicholls ended Scolyer’s run, and Arnold bowled and Coker caught out Dywer.
Nicholls held his momentum as he bowled Saxon Scolyer for a duck with an LBW.
Noah Lamont began a strong stand for the Blues, hitting two boundary balls before Colts bowler Tuxworth took the wicket for eight runs.
Jonty Blake and Logan Elphinstone began to build a lower order partnership which threatened the Colts’ total before Nicholls bowled his second wicket, caught by Hardy, to end the run of Blake (16).
Elphinstone (11 not out) and Finn Peach (0 not out) chased down the runs within 18.2 overs to reach 5/69 and win by five wickets.
In round two of the Cricket North West season, the Circular Head Colts will travel to take on the Latrobe Demons this Sunday (November 18) from 10am.
