BowlsBoth Smithton Bowls Club ladies sides were defeated by Wynyard during Bowls North West proceedings on home turf last week.

Following the two Thursday games, the temptation of a barbecue encouraged many to join the men’s pennant practice.

On Saturday, Division Two men hosted South Burnie in Smithton. While the weather tormented players throughout the close game, Nigel Pedley, Hans Driehuis, Bruce Oates and Terry Auld found the winners’ circle as Maurice Moles, Aaron Amos, Nicholas Huisman and James Butler continued to play with fine form.

Although the side fell before a narrow margin, consistency across all rinks will push the team across the line not before too long, says president Rodney O’Halloran.

In Div Five, Kenny Moore, Tom ‘Tractor’ O’Halloran, Barrie Cooper and Brian Bouncer were unlable to hold the opposition as Smithton went down by one shot to Ulverstone. However, Smithton did claim victory on two rinks courtesy of efforts made by Kevin Stanley and Graham Horne.

Smithton Bowls Club will host its Club Fours Championship this Sunday (November 12). To sign up see the noticeboard.
