GNL. The Tall Timbers Smithton Saints entered the Greater Northern League season on Saturday with a match against Launceston City.

The club travelled the length of the coast to meet with the home side at the Northern Hockey Centre, where the women began proceedings.

Launceston notched one goal in the first half as the Saints fought to even the score. The margin expanded to two goals in the second half allowing the home side to take the victory points.

As the Saints men stepped onto the field, the side was taken aback by their opponents as Launceston worked to secure the first score.

Smithton focused its attention towards attacking in the second half and prevailed with two goals to overtake Launceston as leaders and ultimately earn the victory, 1-2.
