In round two of the Circular Head Cricket Association, victories went to Marrawah and Irishtown.
Playing in Smithton, Marrawah took the bat in the first innings against Trowutta Combine.
Contributions from Matthew Saward (89), Mitchell Heald (24), Shane Babcock (17) and Marcus Popowski (12) early in the piece assisted the side in reaching 9/183 in 40 overs.
Trowutta Combine bowlers Vishal Kamboj and Jacob Robson-Wells took the top honours, both with three wickets from seven overs and 24 and 26 runs respectively.
Stuart Wells started the second innings by putting 37 runs on the Trowutta Combine tally, though a succession of single digit scores prevented the team from reaching the target.
The main Marrawah wicket takers were Scott Fisher (3/9) and Heald (3/11) with Jaiden Popowski (1/19), Jonathon Arnold (1/12) and Jay Saward (1/13) chipping in for one apiece to have the Trowutta Combine batsmen all out for 85 runs in 25 overs.
In the next game of the round, Irishtown hosted rivals Forest Stanley in a 10 wicket win.
Forest Stanley began the batting, reaching a low 76 runs all out from 28.1 overs.
In the second innings, Irishtown’s opening batsmen Joel Keep and Shaun Hammond partnered to produce a quality performance.
Keep made his way to 28 runs not out while supporting Hammond in reaching 41 runs not out to total 78 for the team. The side reached the target in less than 10 overs to take the victory with 10 wickets remaining.
In round three of the Circular Head Cricket Association, Trowutta Combine will host Forest Stanley while Marrawah and Irishtown meet at Redpa this Saturday (November 24) from 10am.
