Golf. Smithton Country Club is brimming with tough competition as the results of the Men’s Club Championships are decided.

Held last weekend (Saturday February 11 and Sunday February 12), two rounds of 27 holes culminated with Lyle Elliott claiming the A Grade title. Zach McLaren was crowned Junior Champion while Nigel Nicholls followed Elliott in B Grade, Kerry Armstrong in C Grade and Troy Thomas in D Grade.

Though the weather disrupted the day’s proceedings, the club’s 24 contenders prevailed in fine form.

The height of Smithton Country Club’s season approaches with the Marie Lord Memorial Smithton Bowl to be held on Saturday March 4 followed by the Bev O’Halloran Memorial Mixed Canadian Foursome on Sunday March 5.

The March long weekend will see the men take to the nine-hole course on Saturday March 11 for a four-ball-best-ball event before the Barker Bowl tournament will be held throughout Sunday March 12 and Monday March 13.

The green is expected to host up to 100 golfers from across the state and country.
