T20. Circular Head Cowbiz Colts fell seven runs short in their T20 game against Latrobe on Sunday in the Cricket North West U/17s competition.
Latrobe chose to bat first and got off to a flyer to be 0/48 after just six overs. Rhys French (35) and Zac Nickole (19) had done all the damage.
Ben Spinks 1/18 clean bowled French but Latrobe kept attacking and it wasn’t until Connor Smith 4/22 and Liam McLaren 1/15 that CH took some control of the game back.
Several missed chances saw Latrobe finish off well to be 8/117 after 20 overs. Vincent O’Halloran took a spectacular catch and was the Colts’ best fielder.
The Colts’ run chase started well to be 0/42 after seven overs but three tight overs and then the loss of Lewis Nicholls for 37 changed the game advantage to Latrobe.
Sam Lewis (9) was cleaned bowled and McLaren was run out for one, which saw the Colts 3/74 after 14 overs.
Smith tried to lift the score but was caught for 23, Ryan Nibbs (7) and Isaac Perry (18 not out) tried their best but with rain falling and the outfield slowing, the Colts fell seven runs short to finish 6/110.
Former Smithton boy Duncan Grey 2/22 from four overs was Latrobe’s best bowler in a very good day of cricket.
CH Cowbiz Colts next play on Sunday January 10 in Smithton against the Burnie Hurricanes.
